The Spice markets report that prices for this spice have softened. With new crop due in India in a few weeks it is expected that this trend will follow. It is expected that oil prices will soften also.

The Spice market is reporting that this year’s crop will be large. Prices for oil are expected to ease, however, with tightening environmental restrictions there are reports that oil production will continue to decrease.

There is large carryover from last year’s crop but this product is being sold at a slight discount due to low Davanone content (40-45% vs 49-50%). New crop is being processed now.

Reports state 2018 crop should be larger than 2017. This too will depend on weather conditions the next several weeks. Menthol prices spiked up as Synthetic Menthol production promised for end-March did not occur. The roller coaster ride continues.

On April 10TH the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasted a total of 45 million boxes to be produced in Florida split between Midseason and Navel (19 million) and Valencia (26 million). This is compared to 69 million boxes from the 2017 crop. Early reports from Brazil also indicate a smaller crop than in 2017, but “official” forecasts won’t be available until May.
