With the shortage of Synthetic Citral, the internal demand in India for vitamins has caused manufacturers to switch to Lemongrass for Citral. This has caused prices to escalate and has limited availability.

It is now the wrong season in Guatemala and availability there has been limited for years as prices are too high compared to Indian.

There have been reports that the Monsoon Season this year has not provided enough rain to ease the conditions in drought stricken growing regions. This has kept prices firm. Strong demand has caused measures to be taken that have brought about serious quality issues.

With the drought still in effect in Southern India, production has been limited. Competition from collectors and strong demand has kept prices firm. This has caused oil of questionable quality to enter the marketplace. Hopefully the upcoming monsoon season will alleviate this situation and production will return to normal.

With severe drought in the growing region of Cochin, prices continue to be firm. With availability an issue, there may be some relief after monsoons come at the end of May/June.

We have reports that drought in the growing regions was followed by monsoon-like rains.  Processing has been hampered due to lack of suitable shoots.  Pricing has climbed and relief is not expected until the end of September or early October.
