Sourcing & Procurment at Berjé

Commitment to Transparency

At the core of our operations is transparency, both in how we work with our partners and how we manage our supply chains. We maintain close connections with farmers and producers, promoting their work directly and ensuring traceability from source to product. This trust-building approach is crucial to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments and helps mitigate risks while supporting global sustainability efforts.

Supporting Fair and Ethical Practices

Berjé is committed to fair trade practices and respecting the livelihoods of our partners. In 2023, 52% of our sourcing came from underdeveloped and developing countries. We actively support these communities by pre-financing over $6.5 million worth of crops, helping our partners with essential capital. This includes funding projects like Alpacasa’s petitgrain campaign in Paraguay and supporting rose growers in Bulgaria. Our fair settlement policy ensures we pay all suppliers within 44 days—significantly faster than industry standards—further cementing our reputation as a reliable and ethical partner.

Environmental and Social Risk Management

Berjé actively identifies and mitigates ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) risks through our Due Diligence and Sustainability Action process. This includes addressing potential issues such as deforestation, and the use of banned pesticides. We work closely with local communities to create safe, ethical, and environmentally responsible working conditions across our supply chain. Additionally, our collaboration with organizations like the Sustainability Initiative of South Africa (SIZA) further strengthens our commitment to ethical trade and environmental protection.

Partnering for a Sustainable Future

Our partnerships extend beyond procurement. Berjé aligns with international sustainability initiatives to ensure that our sourcing practices continue to evolve with global standards. From supporting local producers to ensuring compliance with ethical labor practices, we take a holistic approach to sustainability, contributing to both the present and future success of our partners.
