Description of Sassafras Oil

Sassafras Oil is steam-distilled from the roots (or “rootbark”) of the Sassafras Albidum tree, which is a species native to North America. Sassafras has been used within human cuisine and medicine for thousands of years, though the oil only gained international renown when it was first taken by Spanish explorers during the 17th century. The oil’s aroma is sweet and spicy, with a fresh and somewhat camphoraceous top note that eventually transitions into a woody and floral drydown. The flavor of sassafras oil is often compared to root beer, making the material a popular inclusion within candy, soft drinks, and mouthwashes.
