Spearmint Oil Chinese 60% is steam-distilled from the flowering tops of the Mentha Spicata, which has its origins in Europe. Originally popularized by American consumers, spearmint has risen to become one of the most important “mint” profiles across all of flavor, with use in countless toothpastes, chewing gums, and mint candies. The aroma of spearmint oil is warm and green, with a penetratingly herbaceous aroma reminiscent of the fresh herb itself. Its flavor is similarly warm, though it retains a spicy and bittersweet nuance. Rectified spearmint concentrates the oil’s sweeter aspects, making it ideal for food items. Outside of flavor, spearmint oil also finds use in green or floral perfumery, sometimes added to ingredients such as lavender, clary sage, and jasmin absolute. The combination of peppermint and spearmint is used to create the ever-popular “doublemint” profile.
