Tonka Bean Absolute
Description of Tonka Bean Absolute
Tonka Bean Absolute is an incredibly rich and sweet extract derived from the crushed seeds of the Dipteryx odorata plant. Due to the large presence of coumarins within the material, tonka bean products have been banned for food use by the FDA since the mid 1950s. However, perfume-grade material such as this can still be used to impart a distinctively sweet, warm, and herbaceous aroma within fragrance products. Tonka bean’s unique blend of caramel and prune-like notes has made the material incredibly popular among African and South American consumer bases. The material is also an excellent fixative within fine fragrance, adding a particular sweetness to ingredients such as lavender, syrax, and clary sage.
