Winter Savory Oil
Description of Winter Savory Oil
Steam-distilled from the semi evergreen Satureja montana plant, Savory Oil has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes for centuries. Originally cultivated by Rome and ancient Greece, the plant is most commonly associated with thyme, though it has a variety of distinct aromatic differences. Savory oil’s odor is spicy and fresh, with a unique “sharpness” not found in similar herb oils. Its medicinal, slightly herbaceous qualities can make it overpowering when used in fragrance, though its flavor is much less intense. Savory oil finds a variety of culinary applications, the most common of which being for meat sauces, seasoning blends, and canned goods. In perfumery, savory oil can be used in small doses to add interesting effects within masculine or forest-type fragrance blends.
